Been busy here in the "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" camp. Had a lot of fun shows so far this summer such as Moondance Jammin Country Festival where I got to meet Sara Evans and opening for JoDee Messina in Ellsworth, WI. Pictures will be up on myspace.com/markstary soon. I am also just getting back from my month long hiatus in my hometown of Turtle Lake, WI, where I taught two drawing classes and directed a play with my dear friend Manfred (www.manfredsmusic.com). All went great and was an absolute blast. Bummer, but our website is still down due to my domain name being held for ransom. Not kidding. Anyway, got some great shows coming up this week such as: Narrows in Navarre, Floyds in Victoria and full band at the Turtle Lake, WI Fair on Friday night! Always a blast to perform in the ol' hometown.

Also...we are very excited to be a part of "The Fountainheads" (www.thefountainheads.net) cd release show THIS SATURDAY at O'Garas (www.ogaras.com). Going to be a blast. Also on the bill are our good friends from Balsam Lake, WI, "The Belfrys". Things are going to be a little different for us that night. I have put together a jam band featuring members of "The Whiskey Roses", "Hares Ear" and "The Rhinestone Diplomats." We are tentatively calling ourselves "Mark Stary & The Bum Dingo Band." (We'll see if that sticks!) Over the summer I have written a ton of songs that we will be performing on Sat night along with a bunch of classic favorites. Please come on out and check out the show! We've spent over a year recording this record and are very happy and proud of the results. We are really hoping that it takes us to the next level we need to get to. Our new record entitled "Raunchy Tonk" had got a little something for everyone. A few industry pop tunes, some heart string ballads and of course a good dose of nasty RAUNCHY TONK! A couple highlights: Lisi and I sing a funny duet together on "Match Made in Hell" which is like a Johnny Cash/June Carter tune that has gone completely wrong, even slightly disturbing. Mr. Ben Kaplan sings a slacker boy blues tune (featuring Randy Rolloff on ragtime piano) on "Friday Night Baby." A highlight for me is the frustrated songwriter plea of "Burnin' Down the Bar" which features vocal performances from nine of my favorite songwriters around the Twin Cities area. And of course the record is riddled with Dan Neale slashing guitars riffs, Erickson's bass grooves, Lisi's sweeping fiddle runs and Ben's pounding drums. I hope you all check it out and enjoy. Man, the last few weeks have been nail biter for me to say the least, but Hornisch, McCusker, Reierson and I worked our asses off getting this record mixed, mastered and ready for the release show. I am very proud of all these songs I wrote and I am very proud of our presentation of them as well.

The record release weekend is gonna be one for the books. Friday night we are playing at one of our favorite venues, Hacks Pub, in Milltown, WI. We've only performed there twice, but both time have been a success. My good friend, Phil, is from the area and performs with his rock n' roll group, "Pretty Far Gone." I appreciate him hooking us up with Hack. It's been a great experience. Opening that night will be a popular local group "The Belfry's." Very anxious to be working with them and glad to have them for record release night. Saturday, I am going to partake in a classic Turtle Lake, WI, (my hometown) tradition. The alumni basketball tournament! Always great to see everyone and bum around for the day with my old high school friends. We are all still quite close, but it is still great just to have a whole day together to joke around and raise hell. Anyway, Saturday night is the big hometown record release show. Opening will be the musical fun of "Hare's Ear." It is an acoustic duo featuring Damon Holter on vocals and harmonica and Dan Fretland on vocals and guitar. Danny and I we're playing at "Old Chicago" a couple weeks ago. Damon, who is the manager, usually jams with us for a portion of the show. But this night, Damon and Dan came up on stage and ran through a short set of there material. Danny and I we're blown away. F-ing hilarious with great harmonies, playing etc. "Spider Taxi" is one of my favorites. Anyway, looking forward to seeing everyone (hopefully!) next weekend at the shows. We've worked so hard on this new record and it will be nice to share in the celebration of it with everyone. And hopefully, I can sell a few copies to help take care of the loan for making the damn thing! Oh, p.s. we have new band t-shirts as well. They look good! Gonna be fun!

Had a great time at Steve Mireau's benefit. If you didn't know, he was one of the founding members of our band and a previous student of mine who got into a very serious motocross accident and became paralyzed from the chest down and was also left without the use of his hands. It's been a difficult situation, but he is a true fighter. There was an excellent turnout at the benefit. Steve said between 500- 800 people. Were some great performances by "The Twisted River Band" and "Small Town Hero." Super nice people as well. The highlight for me was when Steve came up on stage with his guitar and performed "Peaceful Easy Feeling" for the crowd and Kim, his girlfriend. It was amazing and I thought he sounded just as good as he did before the accident! Not a dry eye in the place. He friggin' rocks and am looking forward to having him grab some opening shows with us like he used to once he is up for it. He developed a technique with using a slide and the weight of his arm to play the guitar just fine! Very impressive. But we are so glad that the benefit went well. It's really gonna help him pay for some of the equipment he needs for recovery that he was unable to get because of insurance constraints. If your interested in helping out Steve, please check out www.caringbridge.org; login name: stevemireau. Thank you to everyone who contributed and came out to the benefit. Was a huge success and greatly appreciated by everyone involved!

Had a great St Pats day again this year in the tent. It was Dan Neale and I's second anniversary and third time playing the tent with Mahoney. Terri Traen and KQRS were there and we all had a great time. I really enjoy the whole social end of it all on that day. I love runnin' around and gossiping with all the musicians, hoping up on stage and jammin' with "Love Songs," givin' "GB"'s guys hell (especially T-Pick) and just the whole experience of it all. I hope that we continue to be a part of that fun day. Always one of my favorite days of the year.

The acoustic nights have been going good. We're still playing full time so that is great and I am happy. Some venues are drying up on us due to economic reasons, but we're still very busy. We are very appreciative of all the venues that keep having us back month after month and all the people that come out and rock out with us. Love it!

Have some big shows coming up this summer as well. JoDee Messina opener! Lookin' like were gonna get Jammin' Country fest with Gretchen Wilson and Sara Evans (we'll keep ya posted!) Be lookin' out for us this summer!

Again, thanks to everyone for all the support. We really appreciate it and couldn't make it without you all. Hope you all are well and hope to see you April 4th and/or 5th!

Regards,

Mark Stary
markstarymusic.com
myspace.com/markstary

Winter/Nashville/New Record

Hey Everyone!

Hope y'all had a great holiday season!

I apologize for the delay in updating this blog. Been very busy giggin, writing, recording, etc!

Had some exciting things happen this fall/early winter!

"Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" had the opportunity to audition for the President of Capitol Records in Nashville in November. Went really well. One of our best performances ever! Not signed with a label as of now, but we're sure working on it! Should be a big year! Come on 2008!

Our new record is almost completely tracked and is in the mixing stage now. Very excited about it! Lots of new tunes and a few road tested ones. Been getting good reviews from the few that have had a chance to check out some songs. Lookin' to release it in late January or Feb. Be looking for a tune called "Burnin' Down the Bar" which features ten lead singers from ten different groups. You can check out one of the new tracks "Ol Shep" on our www.myspace.com/markstary page.

Been playing a ton of shows! Thanks to everyone that has been coming out to support us. Could not do it without you. Got lots of new clubs we're playing and we are looking forward to rocking them all! Anyway, thanks again for everything, hope you all are well and will be contacting y'all soon as this record gets done!

Mark Stary

State Fair 2007!

Hey Everyone!

MN State Fair week has been a blast! Got to perform with Dan on some live t.v. broadcasts such as: KARE 11 Showcase MN, Fox 9 Morning News & KSTP Channel 5 news at 4:00, 5:00, 5:30 & 6:00. All went great. The people at all those stations were very nice & supportive of our music. Thanks to all who tuned in! Was really neat to see how all that works behind the scenes. Camera people, producers, sound people, etc. Was quite overwhelming. The crowds were great as well. People sure get pumped up for the State Fair & to see their favorite news anchor. Some of those news broadcasts we're like rock concerts! The acoustic shows at the Ramberg Stage were great as well. Thanks to everyone who stopped out. Was great to see some familiar faces I hadn't seen in a while! Glad to be a part of the MN State Fair, was a great opportunity for us & a unforgettable experience. One of the funnest weeks of my music career.

http://www.showcaseminnesota.com/show/client_article.aspx?storyid=262855

Still recording like crazy! Really would like to get our new record out before Christmas. Workin' hard to make it so, but we'll see. Got some great tunes on there. Most of them are road tested & gone over well, so I'm really excited to get the record out there. Some serious Raunchy Tonk.

Also, gonna be rollin' down to Nash-Vegas a couple times before the winter comes. See if I can get rid of a song or two! My pub company has been doing a great job & am anxious to perform the new tunes for them.

Bad news. The original Whiskey Roses rhythm guitar player & dear friend of the band, Steve Mireau, got into a serious motorcross accident. If you would like to check up on him or send him a message please check out:

www.caringbridge.org
stevemireau

Anyway, thank you all for the support, hope you all are well & hope to see you all soon!

Regards,

Mark Stary

Summer!

Hey Everyone!

Hope y'all are doing well. Just spent the last month in my hometown of Turtle Lake, WI, teaching summer school courses & living at our family's cabin. Was a blast! Taught two drawing classes & directed the Turtle Lake Summer School Play. We wrote & did a musical version of "The Emperor's New Clothes." The kids did great. Always a blast working with Manfred Schonauer. Very talented pianist. A rock n' roller from Germany. Very uplifting guy & always gets my head back on straight when things get a little frustrating in the music biz. Check out his new record & website (www.manfredsmusic.com). Taught the kids a bunch of 50's greaser tunes, so you'll be hearin' a few of them at our upcoming shows. It's all I listened to for a month. Awesome! Had a ton of friends come up & stay. Fellow musician, Chris Hornisch, of the Fountainheads, taught a unit on graphic design. Was fun. I stuck around through the 4th. Shot off a ton of fireworks (provided by Victory Fireworks), drank High Life Light, fished, ate & hung out with family & friends. Anyway, just adjusting back to the fast paced city life. But lookin' forward to getting back to giggin & getting this new record done!

Our family lost ol' Frank Stary a week or so ago. Originally from Turtle Lake, WI, as well. He also played in bands in the Twin Cities area & back in the day had a group called "Buck Stary & The Ramblers." I got the poster hangin' in my room. 35 cents for admission. Wow. They played old roaring 20's, big band, etc. music. Gonna miss him.

The Travis Tritt show went great. We ended up going on after him, which was cool. Got to meet Travis, his band & his road crew. Was a fun time. His voice is amazing.

Harbor Bar Country Fest was also a ton of fun. Had my buddy, Tom Schradle, help out with the road crew stuff & he did a great job. Was a good time & hoping that is grows next year! A late night for us. Think we rolled in at around 3:30am & of course ya gotta have a cold one after all that work!

The Grand Opening of GB Leighton's Pickle Park was a good show as well. Always fun hanging with the Mahoney crew. Really enjoy Tim's new record. The Whiskey Roses played great. We we're rockin! Thanks to Randy Tollin for the great pics! Hope to be playing that club again soon! It's like straight out of Vegas! Guitars & music memorabilia everywhere! Sweet!

Philanders in Prescott was fun, but hot as hell! One of the hottest shows I have ever been on. Beer, water, beer, water, etc. But went over great. Sold some cd's & the band played very well. Hope to grab another gig there before the end of the summer.

Getting really anxious for the K102 Boat Show. Guess there selling a lot of tickets. Gonna be a blast. I'm gonna be on a road trip that entire week comin' in from Seattle & hoping we make it there on time!

Also, gonna be fun playing my hometown of Turtle Lake, WI, for the T.L. Fair. Gonna be rough getting up to run the Turtle Trot Race the next morning at 8:00 am, but oh well.

Have had a ton of fun acoustic shows latley. Did Old Chicago last night & that was fun as hell. Otherwise, Breakroom, Nova, Ingredients, Majors, Tanners Station, Blarney, all have been a blast. Love doing those acoustic shows.

Anyway, thanks for stoppin' by to see what we're up to. Hope all is well & see ya soon!

Mark

Love This Life, Country Boy

Hey Y'all!

Hope everyone has been doing well. Been stayin' plenty busy here. Lot's of exciting things goin' on for us. Here's the sum-up!

First of all. Bummer, but The Lost Trailers show at Joe's in Chicago fell through. Our apologies to everyone who was planning on comin' out. Would have been a great time. But the Trailers did not have their new single out so they did not want to tour. Was beyond our control. Hopefully, the show gets rescheduled for the fall.

We're openin' for Travis Tritt on June 15th! Should be a great show! I've always been a huge fan on his. Check www.markstarymusic.com for details!

Thanks to Randy Tollin and Kristen Papp for takin' some excellent photos at our Twisted Shamrock, Fine Line, Cabooze and Ingredients shows. Very much appreciated. Check some of 'em out on www.markstarymusic.com & www.myspace.com/markstary!

Had some great & wild shows at: Ingredients, Nova, Glenloch Saloon, Twisted Grille, Booya's, Fine Line, Delhi, Dalles House, etc. etc. etc. Thanks to all who came out to support these shows. We couldn't keep goin' without you.

Was a great experience openin' for the legenday Junior Brown at the Cabooze. Was a huge crowd! Junior was great!

It's been fun performing with the local legend, Mick Sterling. Dan Neale & I have been playin' some shows with him at the Copper Bleu in Lakeville. Fun shows & hope to be doing more with him in the near future.

Was great to get back into the Fine Line. It's been a while since we've performed there. Ian and everyone at the Fine Line did a great job. Lookin' foreward to Dan & I's show there tomorrow night!

Huge show with Tim Mahoney at O'Gara's for St Patty's as well. One of my favorite shows of the year. Great crowd. Had a fun after bar party at my house as well!

Been writing and recording like crazy. It was Capital Records CRS party and Dierks Bentley was performing. We checked it out for a minuite then continued around the corner headin' back to the Renaissance Hotel for more parties. I suddenly looked up and saw Mr. Mike Dungan, CEO/President of Capital Nashville, standing there. I haven't seen him in 2 years, almost to the date, when I had the opportunity to perform for him at his office at Capital. I've been dropping off material ever since and do hear from him now and then, but wasn't quite sure it was getting to him. He looked over.............. "Mark! How are you doing? Looks like I got some new material from you today! Sounds like you got some good things goin on with K102 up there in the Twin Cities. Who's pitching your songs down here?" Needless to say, I was in shock. This is Keith Urbans', Trace Atkins', Dierks Bentleys' boss talkin' to me here!!! Holy ....!!!

Anyway, hope everyone's enjoyin' all this snow! Sarah and I were stranded in Dallas,TX, for 2 days because of it! Just was in Nashville this last week catching up with my tunes at Aristomedia and hanging out at the parties for the CRS festival. Got to meet all kinds of great artists and catch up with some friends as well. Everyone was so nice and fun, I couldn't believe it. Got to see and or meet: Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Trent Tomlinson, Mark Chesnutt, Eddie Montgomery (Montgomery Gentry), Jewel, Jon Rich (Big and Rich), Michelle Branch, Jessica Harp (The Wreckers), Edwin McCain, Poverty Neck Hillbillies, The Lost Trailers, Bucky Covington, etc. etc. etc. Was a great experience. Had a blast with my cousin, Kate, meetin' all her industry friends as well.

Also found out that my song "Fine" is being shelved by some major labels on music row as well! I am VERY excited about that. Thanks to Matt Watkins and Walkerbout Music!

Lookin' forward to all the upcoming shows. Thanks to everyone for all the support. We'll have some new music out to y'all soon. Hope to see y'all out at a show! Etc. Etc.

Happy New Year Y'all!

Been an exciting year for "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses." We hope to keep the freight train - a - rollin' right through 2007 as well. Thank you all for helping make 2006 the best year we've had yet!

Here's the updates on the last few VERY exciting weeks!

"Lee's Liquor Lounge" (12-21-06): Our dear friends from Kansas City "The Gaslights" (http://www.thegaslights.com/) came up and played a show with us at "Lee's." We've been fans and friends of theirs for a while now, and it was great to finally share a stage with them. Not as many people as we would of liked, due to the icy roads and the Packer/Viking game, but was a ton of fun all the same. We had Abigail, Chris and Glen up on stage with us to perform "NYC" and "Folsom." Was a crazy, high energy show. And of course they all crashed at our house and we partied and talked music biz till the sun came up. Was a great time and can't wait to get a show down there.

"K102" (12-23-06): Snuck out of the "Ingredients" show a little early, due to the Christmas season and was able to make it home to catch "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" on K102! Donna Valentine and Chris Carr spoke of the band and then played "Choo Choo" off of our new record. Was very exciting and hopefully this is the beginning of a long relationship with K102 radio. Please keep calling in (651-989-5102) and e-mailing (http://www.k102.com/) requesting your favorite "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" track!

"New Delhi Bar" (12-28-06): CMT, GAC, K102 artists "The Lost Trailers" (http://www.thelosttrailers.com/) came over to my house in St. Paul to get some gear for their midwest leg of their Phil Vasser/Little Big Town/Trent Tomlinson tour. Very excited to have some of our stuff up on stage at the Target Center, even though we would not be playing it! Soon though....very soon. Anyway, Ryder, Manny, Andrew and Potter of "The Lost Trailers" came out to our packed "New Delhi" show! They had a great time. They enjoyed our music a lot, participated with the crowd and everything. But the big suprise was that they came up on stage and played their hit "Why Me" among a bunch of other tunes. Everyone's jaw dropped. Was quite and experience. They called us on stage and Dan, Lisi and I performed some songs with them as well. One of my favorite songs of all time is "Longfall" by "The Lost Trailers." It was a dream come true to perform that song live with them. Also, spent a hour and a half with songwriter Stokes Nielson, who was sick the day of the "Delhi" show, on the phone New Years day discussing our musical careers'. He said some nice things about our record and gave me some great advice on the industry. He is one of my musical heroes and it was quite a thrill for me to be discussing the music biz with him.

"New Years Eve" (1-01-07): Dan, Lisi, Shawn Schradle, Shawn Leith and I played "Booya's" in my hometown of Turtle Lake, WI on NYE. Was a great time! Lots of family and old friends there. Horrible driving conditions, but ended up being a fun night.

"Dukes" (1-04-07): Travis Moon and Geno Ricci from K102 were out again for our "Dukes" show. Was a great time. Was very exciting hearing the on air adds on K102 and then coming to the show and seeing it grow. Was very encouraging. Had a great time hangin' with Travis Moon discussing the music biz, our record and old time radio broadcasts. Very cool guy. Anyway, wasn't a bad turn out and we all had a wonderful time. Brought Lisi with us on this acoustic show, she did an awesome job, so you might be seein' her on more "Acoustic Raunchy Tonk Tour" shows!

"O'Gara's" (1-06-07): O'Gara's is always a great time. Lot's of people there I hadn't seen in a while. Steve Mireau, the original rhythm guitar player for the Whiskey Roses was there. Was fun catchin' up with him. Local country artist, Tim Sigler, showed up as well. Anyway, it was great to see everybody! Good turnout! Jimmy was runnin' sound, which always makes for a good night for all the bands. Love hangin' out with The Fountainheads & The Rhinestone Diplomats. Everyone performed well & had a great time. We called up a bunch of our friends and fans from the crowd to help with "Roy Clark" and "Horse." Was a good night.

Thanks again to everyone who continues to support us. Your the best. Thanks to all the people takin' photos, etc. We appreciate it. See y'all soon!

Mark

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://markstarymusic.blogspot.com/2007/01/lost-trailers-k102-etc-etc-etc.html' title='The Lost Trailers, K102, Etc. Every room in the house had the radio cranked. The anticipation for the song was amazing. We heard the D.J's mention our names and briefly discuss the band and the record. We all started cheering. Next song! The house is about to erupt. Silence as the last commercial leaves the airwaves. Then!.....then!!!........then!!!!............."This is Our Country" by John Cougar Mellencamp came on. We were skipped. I cannot describe the let down. We were devistated. So close. Within' minuites everyone had their phones lit up calling K102. People lined up to get on the computer and e-mail the station. The house was up in arms. People calling each other from all over the area asking "What the f*** happened?" At the peak of the chaos, at my friends request, I grabbed our record, went to the main stereo in the house and cranked the song anyway. Everyone sang and danced along. When the song ended, I could hear some friends and fans in the other room with an acoustic guitar playing our tunes and singing them as loud as they could. Looked out the window and saw people outside still desprately tring to get through to the radio station. I looked at the kitchen clock, it was midnight and I had just turned 30 years old. A tear got away from me. This is grass roots and I've never been so touched in all my life.

Yes, our song was skipped on K102 on Saturday night. I have been contacted by the station with their deepest apologies. The song was accidently cut due to time restraints. Ours was not supposed to be the one cut. The situation was simply a case of unfortunate luck on ours and the D.J.'s parts. No one is to blame. Please continue to support K102 and especially the "Roadhouse" broadcast. They have believed in us and will be playing us again in the very near future. Likely, this Saturday night. Being involved with the music industry as long as I have. I have become accustomed to dissapointment from time to time. This will not deter us in anyway. Like I said, we will be on again soon and thank you to K102 for handling this situation responsibly and with care. The D.J.'s on K102 said some very nice things about our group before the commercial break and for that I am very appreciative. Please keep calling K102 and sending your e-mails requesting our music. Everyone who listened, called in and e-mailed I thank you for your support.

Had a great time at "Dukes" on Thursday with Travis Moon and Geno Ricci from K102. Lots of potential for that show for sure. Travis Moon mentioned that he may be placing us on his famous Travis Moon's Test Tune broadcast in the near futue. I will inform all that are on the e-mail listing when for sure. Please call in a give'em your feedback!

"Acadia" was a blast as well. Great to see Jon Jacobson again with "Johari's Window."They were great and we will be workin' with them again soon. Good to see you too Santos! Thanks to all who came out.

Thanks to everyone who supports this band. We love you. I'm half way through the Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol" and it's gettin' me in the mood.

Went and saw "The Fountainheads" show on Monday at 7th St. and it was great. Can't wait to perform with them at "O'Gara's" come January.

Really excited to hear our ad's on K102 this week for the "Dukes" gig on Thursday. Should be a "gas" as Dan says.

Last weeks shows.......

"Badaz" was a great time. We managed to use the pool table for a stage again. Got both Dan & I up there. Was a tight fit but fun. Had a very wild and excited crowd. All the hardcore's were there which is always nice such as The Ingrams, The Pink Ladies, The Stout Punkers, The Winona Fan Club, The Monett's, etc. Even Mr. "Bass-Man" Ryan Erickson made an apperance with his bro. Was suprised to see so many people, I didn't recognize, that knew all the tunes though. Very rewarding for a songwriter when that happens. Makes it all worth while. The record is getting some leg work done. I love turnin' that bar into a honkey-tonk. Thanks again to Scotty, Kyle and the crew. Always the best part of the night is hangin' afterwards eatin' "Jeff & Jim's Pizza" talkin' strategy and makin' up stories about Scotty's brother, Ryan.

"Nova" was relaxing, refreshing and mellow. The opposite end of acoustic shows compared to Menomonie. Which is nice as well. We get it all in this live music scene. Gotta be able to adapt. If all shows were like Sin City 2, I likely would be dead by now. But got lots of good compliments at "The Nova" and got rid of a few discs. Great food and service as usual.

"Plum's" with Geoff Elvee was fun. Dan joined up with Geoff and I for an acoustic night. Had a decent crowd. Everyone was in a good mood and keepin' Alex and the boys busy at the bar. Excited to see that the new songs are takin' off. Geoff's "Copenhagen" tunes took the cake though, in my opinion. Had a great time with da boys talkin' Nashville till all hours of the night at my roomate's pub afterwards.

Anyway, big K102 week for us. Hope y'all get a chance to check out our song on Saturday night at the 10:00 hour or hear our ad's this week for the "Dukes" show on Thursday. Thanks for everything, y'all, hope all is well and see ya soon.

Mark

K102 Baby!

Hey Eveyone,

Found out this week that K102 is going to start playing one of our tunes on their "Roadhouse" show. Kicking off on Saturday, Dec 16th during the 10:00 hour. It's my b-day at midnight (Dec. 17th) and what a great way to wrap up the year for the band and end my 20's for me. Thanks so much to Donna Valentine and everyone at K102 radio.

"Breakroom" was great. Thanks to Brandon for doing such a great job settin' that up and runnin' sound. Great to see the "Winona Fan Club" as well as an old friend from T.L., Scott Schradle, there as well.

Ryan Nelson, Kellli, Mallory, Sarah and the crew we're up to the usual antics at the "New Delhi Bar" show this week. Quit buyin' us those damn Borb's! Cant' see straight afterwards!

"O'Gara's Garage" was a blast. "Ali Gray" did an awesome job, as did the "Rhinestone Diplomats." We will be workin' with them again in the very near future. Very rockin' evening. Love doin' those full band shows. Thanks to everyone that keeps comin' out and supporting us.

Great crowd at "Blarney Pub" as well. Thanks to the "Roomies", "Pink Ladies", and a few from the "Winona Fan Club" for comin' out.

Thanks to Mr. Nick Asuncion and the "Acoustic Raunchy-Tonk Tour", some of our new tunes have leaked out to our fans and have been going over great! Some are quite gritty lyrically, but we are very excited about them. We're gonna start doing some recording comin' up in the next month or so. Come on out to a show and check'em out for yourself! Thanks for everything, y'all. See ya this week!

Mark Stary

"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition!"

Hey Everyone,

Hope y'all had a great thanksgiving! I had a great time hangin' with the fam' in my hometown of Turtle Lake, WI. Looked over my Grandpa's World War 2 pics, while listening to my grandma's collection of songs from that era. Blows me away every time when I think of what that generation had to go through. Tougher than nails. Found a great pic that we might use for our next album cover though! Ran out later to meet up with Tom, Shawn, Hassel, Scott, etc. for a beer or two at "Booya's." Friends and family is what it is all about!

Went to the Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert & Randy Rogers Band show at the Xcel on Sat night. Got to hang out with Randy Rogers band for a while. Very cool guys. I told 'em that we do a version of their song "This Time Around." They were impressed and played it first on their set. All acts did a great job. Very inspiring. Stopped by the ol' "Eagle Street" afterward to drop in on Mr. Tim Sigler's set. Was packed and he did an excellent job. Was nice for me to spend a Saturday night on the other side of the mic and see what's going on. Honestly, I missed it, even just for a night!

"Tiffany's" on Thanksgiving Eve was a blast. Great sound! Had a crew from Menomonie up, the Roomies, The Pink Ladies, the Girneau crew, some rep from "Plums" and all were very loud and had a splendid time. Was great to hang out with Mahoney and the boys. Always fun to catch up with them over a beer, or in their case, Yag!

"Hat Trick" in St. Paul was fun as well. Robin and Larry who run the place were very cool. Larry had the best vinyl collection, he was spinnin' between sets, that I have ever heard. Robin came up on stage added some harp on some cool blues tunes in the key of "G". B.A.R. from So-Dak was up, Sarah, Nate-Dogg, Bobby G, Kristof, etc. were all out. Was fun.

Lookin' foreward to the shows this week. "O'Gara's" should be a sign if the Pat Green show gave us a bump with the fan base. We got our fingers crossed! Thanks for everything y'all and hope to see ya this week!

Mark Stary

Nashville, Fine Line & other Sh-tuff

Pat Green shouted "Who drank all the God damn beer?" as I snuck out of the Fine Line's green room last Weds night.......I was thinking......What did they expect when the opening band is the Whiskey Roses?

Hey everyone. It's been a few big & fun weeks for us. Here's the low-down on the ho-down......

Badaz: Great time. Rocked out on the pool table. Got a great new Sin City version of "Roy Clark" which is hilarious. Thanks to Scotty & da Boyz for always treatin' us so well.

Harbor: Haven't played there since summer time & was great to see everyone again. Thanks to all the Winona, St Paul, & Girnau & Missy's clan for comin' to support the show. Can't wait for all the boats, parrots & Red Stripes in the summer!

Blarney: Thanks to Mike for always bein' so cool & lettin' me get away with my music there. Had a great time with the Pink Ladies, Jeff Pop., the Roomies, etc. etc. Another wild night in Dinkeytown!

Strikers: Full band rocked out in Roch. The Winona & St Paul crowds really brought it home. Thanks for comin' out on a Sunday & makin' the show rock.

Nashville trip: Went great! My song "Fine" is being pitched all over down there. Very excited about that! Looking to do some full band showcases down there in the spring. Will be huge for us! Thanks to my pub company for all the hard work and advice. Was great to hang out with my cuz, Kate, Dan Neale & some fellow songwriter friends over beers at The Tin Roof and other watering holes on "The Row."

Pat Green: Probably the biggest show I've ever played. Tons of people there. The crowd was great. They caught on right away & we made lots of new fans. Thanks to all that supported the show, checked out a cd & we're cool to us. Thanks also to Pat Green's camp for lettin' us share the green room & Miller Lites. Hope to work with y'all again soon.

Anyway, thanks to everyone that supported the shows, put miles on the car, took photos, worked merch, sang, danced and rioted at our last shows. Was a strange number and a gruff voiced man was on the line. He proceeded to complain about the new "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" record. Said that it was offensive and that it degraded John Wayne. After being asked if I knew who it was, to which I replied "No!" The voice revealed itself as, Mr. Terry Ingram, my old photography professor at UW-Stout! His sons, Tim and Rob, we're listening to the record before they were heading to the show at "Lee's" and Mr. Ingram decided to call and prank me. He loved the record! Great to hear from ya, Mr. Ingram. Ya got me!

Hope everyone had a chance to check out Mr. Dan Neale on "A Prairie Home Companion" on Saturday. He did a spectacular job!

"Delhi Bar" was a great time as usual. Had a great time jammin' for the bar and throwin' back a few with The Nelson, Kelli & Mallory (Pink Ladies), etc.

"Lee's Liquor Lounge" was awesome! Thanks to everyone that made'er out that night! Was great to see the Menomonie folk up in the cities! Rob, Tim, Heim, Joe, Chris, Brandon, Ann, Megan, Kelli, Bonnie, Mallory, Heather, etc. etc. etc. Thanks for the support! Somebody send me those photos!

Was great to see Story, Tanya, Nicki, Cristina, Joe, Randy, etc. at "Twisted Shamrock" on Friday. Thanks to Randy Tollin' for takin' such great photos. Check'em out on our photo page! Thanks also to Mr. Nick Asuncion for performing some tunes with Mr. Dan Neale. "Handle with Care" is one of my favorite songs.

Thanks to Mr. Dan Neale for makin' it down to perform at "Booya's" on Saturday after his "Prairie Home" gig. Thanks also to Mr. Shawn Schradle for playing along as well. Had a awesome time as usual! Was great to see: my sis - Amy, Heim, Chris, Tim, Tony, Adrienne, Stacia, Ma, Judy, Dad, Derek, Kayla, Jason, Lacey, Phil, Mona, Rick, etc. etc. etc. etc. Thanks to Lacey for singin' some Alison Krauss with us and Derek for grabbin' lead vocals on "Horse." Thanks to all that came out to support the show. We had a great time!

Got a big week of shows comin' up: Menomonie, Hager City, Dinkeytown and Rochester. "Mark Stary & The Whiskey Roses" are going to be openin' for "Pat Green" (http://www.patgreen.com/) at the Fine Line Music Cafe (http://www.finelinemusic.com/) in Minneapolis, MN, Wednesday, November 15th, doors at 7:00. Pat Green is one of my all time favorite singer/songwriters. His record "Here I Go" is on my top 10 for sure. He is one of the most popular "Texas Country" performers ever. He is featured on K102 radio here in the Twin Cities and nationally on CMT, GAC, etc. His radio hits include: "Wave on Wave," "Feels Just Like It Should," "Don't Break My Heart Again," "Baby Doll," etc. Thank you very much to Kim King for putting this together for us. Been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.

Also, we are very excited about Mr. Dan Neale and I's publicity trip to Nashville, TN, coming up November 13th. We have to return a day early due to the "Pat Green" show, but we'll be back again soon. Looking foreward to seein' all our Nashville friends and seein' how much interest "Fine" is generating.

Had a blast this week at the shows. "The Breakroom" in Rochester was a "gas." Was great to see fans from Menomonie, Winona, St Paul & Rochester there supporting Mr. Dan Neale & I 's acoustic "Raunchy Tonk" set. "The Nova" was fun as usual. Lots of people out there on Friday! For the second show in a row, I took my dinner/break in the liquor store, hung out with the crew, acted like I was running the till, because there was no place to sit in the main room! Was fun. Y'all gotta stop by there sometime, excellent food and service.

The Halloween show at "O'Gara's Garage" with G.B. Leighton (http://www.gbleighton.com/) was awesome. Thank you to everyone that came out to support it. I dressed as Alice Cooper, Dan was Angus Young, Ben dressed as Groucho Marx, Ryan was Jimi Hendrix's bass player, Lisi went as a Dolly Parton/Loretta Lynn/cowgirl mix. Excellent crowd. G.B.'s crew were very cool to us. I had the opportunity to go on stage with Mr. Brian Leighton and sing "Sweet Home Alabama" during their second set. Was a great time.

Thank you to everyone that has been comin' out the shows and checking out the new record. Also, thanks to everyone that has been taking photos (Christina, Jenny, Nate, Sarah, etc.) for us as well. We really appreciate it! This is why the disc was recorded. Thank's Brando! Best compliment we could recieve.

Hope y'all got a chance to check out Mr. Dan Neale on "A Prairie Home Companion" on Saturday. He did an excellent job. We're proud of ya, Dan.

Thank you to Kelli for making all 4 shows this week. She's hardcore. We appreciate the support. Thanks to Mr. Chris Hornisch (www.thefountainheads.net) for openin' for us at both the Delhi and Plum's gigs. Thanks also to Mr. Nick Asuncion for performing with me at Plum's and Badaz. Watch out for that boy. He's a gun slinger. Great to see "The Halloways" boys, Teddy and Dan, (www.thehalloways.com) on Saturday at Plum's. They ran over after a gig at Tiffs to help me close out the night at Plum's. "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Don't Go Away Mad" were great. Great to see Mr. Joe Carrey from "Love Songs for Angry Men" there as well. Check out their myspace.com page for sure.

I'm signing the papers for "Fine" to get published in Nashville today. Very excited about that songs potential down there on the row. Looks like were "fixin" to go down there within' the next fews weeks.

Lookin' foreward to playing this "Halloween"Saturday at O'Gara's (www.ogaras.com) with "G.B. Leighton"(www.gbleighton.com). He was one of my heros when I was younger and it's always a priviledge to perform with that group.

Been writing, writing and writing this week. Got some new tunes we're anxious to get recorded. Wrote a funny Christmas tune called "Ol' Shep (Looks Like I Might Be Home For Christmas)" which were really excited about. I sent'er off to my pub company in Nashville. Hopin' we can get to someone to record or play live around the holidays. I'll keep ya posted. We'll have it up on our website or myspace.com page when it gets to be that time of year.

Thanks again to everyone that came out to support the Delhi, Badaz, Nova & Plum's shows this week. Played a wedding on Friday night in Cumberland, WI, with Mr. Dan Neale, Mr. Ben Kaplan & Mr. Shawn Schradle. Got rid of a few discs & had a great time firin' up the crowd. "Roy Clark!!" My dear friend, Mr. Jeremy "Styx" Schradle, can really cut it up when you mix some Miller Lite in with some "Whiskey Roses!" Found out that Mr. Dan Neale will be playin' "Prarie Home Companion" next Saturday. Congrats, Dan, that is a huge gig, my man! Was great to see & catch up with some of my old teachers & friends from Turtle Lake, WI. They all seem to be doing well. Saturday's solo acoustic show at Blarney's, was a blast as well. My cousin, Kate, flew in from Texas & we had a ball. 2nd set was nothin' but Texas Country (Cross, Rogers, Robison, Trailers & of course Whiskey Roses.) Kate was the first one to expose me to that kind of "Raunchy Country" & I really appreciate it. The Whiskey Roses "Pink Ladies" were there as well, "gettin' those Frandrup boys on the dancefloor....." Thanks to all that have been comin' out to the shows. I appreciate it. Hope y'all are enjoyin' the new album as well. Got some big full band shows comin' up in the next few weeks. Keep checkin' the schedule listing for performances in your area. Most importantly, we have passed the "Nucular Football" (as Dan Neale says) or a.k.a. our new record to Mr. John Wright to do the final touch up recording, mixing & mastering. We are very excited. It's been a long road. Tryin' to line up a cd release party at O'Gara's Garage (www.ogaras.com) likely on Sept 30th. Also the Whiskey Roses will be visiting Nashville, TN, the week of Aug 6th to try to get the word out there on our new record & check in with the pub company, etc. We may even have to stop by the Tin Roof for a couple "Henry & the Seahawks" tunes & a beer or 10. Very excited be a part of many festivals, parties, shows, etc. this fall. Such as The City Pages B-Day Bash at the Cabooze, The Kentucky Headhunters show in Roch, Haug Fest with Trampled by Turtles in Sept, Wild River Festival in Sept, Emerson Drive in Nov, and a million acoustic, etc. shows in between. Please keep chekin' www.markstarymusic.com for show updates, times, etc. Thank you for checkin' in with us & see ya on the road!

Mark Stary
